The Design Process

1. Initiating Dialogue and Vision Building:

We begin with a collaborative discussion to understand the vision, requirements, talent preferences, and personal aesthetic we need to achieve. We establish a collective vision and determine each participant's contribution.
2. Character and Text Analysis

We analyze source material to identify key clues that define authentic characters. By extracting details from the text we can make informed costume choices. We start to develop the early foundational choices like color palette and silhouette.
3. Consider Constraints and Purpose

We must factor in limitations such as budget, resources, space, timing, and talent capabilities - incorporating them into the design process for the beginning. This ensures the functionality of costumes to be as harmonious as the visual appeal.
4. Research and Authenticity

We spend extensive time researching historical context, character backgrounds, and thematic elements of the world we are building. Creating a lens to see through, as we start collecting materials to create with.
5. Creativity and Skill Development

We view creativity as a skill to be cultivated and expanded upon continuously. Experimenting with various materials and techniques to realize original visions and create memorable costumes. During the process of making the physical costumes, we always try to stay curious - allowing for adaptability.
6. Audience Engagement and Intended Impact

We aim to leave a lasting impression on the audience, encouraging curiosity and understanding of the characters. By meticulously navigating through each step of the design process, we can create a costume of authenticity, creativity, and functionality, ultimately enriching the experience for both performers and audiences alike.
