ADIOS MAMA CARLOTA

The San Jose Stage

A new work brought to life by Luis and Kinan Valdez to show the maddening decent of the once queen of Mexico. A part ghost, part memory, part fantasy - Adios was a whirlwind of paint, wood glue, and found objects. Built over three weeks for a cast of eight, each individual garment, for all eighteen looks, had to be treated by hand. Distressing happened on all the mens pant legs and creeped up their coats; a sign of their otherworldly qualities and age, fading with Carlota’s memory. Her specific decay of holes and discoloration was that of time, eating away showing her skeleton beneath.
